My Goal as a Christian Counselor
My goal as your therapist is to create an atmosphere where you can feel comfortable being your authentic self and be true and honest about what you may be repressing. I enjoy taking a person-centered approach with clients. Together we will work to establish and maintain your therapeutic goals and take steps to help you reach your full potential, with God’s help and direction.
What I Offer in Christian Counseling
I offer a welcoming, comfortable space and seek to adapt our sessions to your preferences. I will begin by asking how you have been feeling and what you feel has been the most important part of your week. With a person-centered approach in my practice, I believe you are the expert on your own life and my role is to guide you toward skills that will be most useful for you and the specific goals you’d like to achieve in your life.
My Approach to Christian Counseling
Jesus was the ultimate counselor. Most of the theory behind Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can be found throughout passages in the Bible. I have learned firsthand that we can try to run from God’s love but when we do, there will always be a void in our lives that we try to fill through worldly things. When we are able to process through the traumas and challenges that we have experienced throughout our lives, we are able to understand that we are worthy of the gift of love and acceptance that we receive from God.
Qualifications & Experience
I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Applied Psychology from Texas A&M University – Commerce. I am professionally trained in EMDR as well as Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
My Call to Christian Counseling
After my dad was diagnosed with cancer when I was a teenager, I felt so deeply sorry for the bedside manner that he received during the process. I began pursuing my career to become a radiologist to hopefully one day show more empathy for those going through similar situations as my father. I wanted to help people from beginning to end.
As life continued, I came to realize that a career in medicine would not be suitable for me and my growing family. After taking some time off, I realized that what I truly wanted to do was to help people through difficult times of their lives regardless of the situation. I was also inspired by my desire to understand and make sense of the brain and why we do what we do. This blossomed into my passion for becoming a mental health therapist.
More About Me/On a Personal Note
I am what they call a “habitual hobbyist.” I love finding new interests to explore and try my hand at. I enjoy the adrenaline rush that comes with accomplishing something I thought I could never do. Sky diving, scary movies, and roller coasters are at the peak of this mountain, but I also get so much excitement from learning how to crochet, finding a new and exciting book, and exploring new places.
My greatest and most exciting accomplishment will always be my journey of being a mom and a wife. My husband and I have been married for eleven years and together we have four beautiful children.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
When working with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, your brain has found itself stuck in “fight or flight” mode and you probably constantly feel as though you are trying to survive rather than getting to live your life. Taking a trauma-focused approach to this type of disorder is imperative while also being able to understand why your brain is reacting in the way that it is. Trauma affects us all differently; because of this, it is important to take this into consideration. With the help of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we can learn and understand how to change the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that we are currently experiencing to help calm the nervous system and begin thriving in your life.
Sexual Abuse
I have been working with victims of sexual abuse since the beginning of my career. This type of trauma and abuse can cause people to feel a plethora of different emotions. Together, we will work through finding the justice within yourself to be able to heal and continue to move forward, understanding that this is something that happened to you and does not define who you are. We will work together to process all of the emotions that you are experiencing and learn how to regulate them so you can begin to understand that your anger and fear are not in control – you are.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
I am an EMDR trained therapist. In our sessions together, I will help you process through past traumas that may feel too difficult to process verbally. The way EMDR works is to help you reprocess the negative thoughts that you have around the experience and replace them with positive and more helpful ones. This does not make the memory “go away” but rather helps you to be able to heal from it so you no longer feel victim to the memory itself. Imagine a fresh blanket of snow falling over the ruts that have been dug so that you can make new paths and connections.
Spiritual Development
As we walk through life, we may feel a desire to blame God for the unwanted or painful circumstances we experience. Perhaps you’ve asked the question, “If God is real, why would He allow this to happen to me?” I will work with you to help you process and understand your experiences and how they relate to God. Together we will look at what God has to say about our particular situations and how He is always there waiting for us and speaking to us. We will also explore how to hear God’s voice and discern His truth from the words of the world.
Depression and Anxiety
Depression and anxiety are some of the most complex emotions that we deal with in our lives and sometimes they can feel overwhelming. We will work together to learn and process through the root causes of these emotions and what to do when they feel unbearable. There are real, environmental and biological causes for these increased and intense emotions. We will process together to understand the specific ways you are being affected and develop tools to help you overcome and cope through psychoeducation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and, if you so choose, strengthening spiritual development.
